For best results, use a photo with room to spare

Stand a little further from the camera so your head, shoulders, and some background are all visible — the next step lets you crop in, but it can't add space that isn't already in the photo. A photo that's already tightly cropped to just your face may not leave enough room to match some documents' requirements.
