We guarantee that the photo you download matches the specification we display for your chosen country and document — the size, head position, eye line, background, and file requirements published by that country's own passport, visa, or ID authority.

What we cannot guarantee is that your application will be accepted. Acceptance always depends on the issuing authority reviewing your specific application, and that decision is entirely theirs, not ours. makeidpic is an independent tool. We are not a government agency, embassy, consulate, or official photo provider, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.

The free tier is the whole product for most people, not a taste of it. Upload a photo, crop and adjust it against a spec-driven guide, and check it against a live compliance readout — all in your browser. Downloads are full-resolution, watermark-free, and unlimited, and include both a single digital photo and a ready-to-print 4x6 inch print sheet. There's no time limit, no locked features waiting behind a signup wall, and no account required, ever.

For most countries, an optional one-time payment unlocks AI-assisted automation for one photo: automatic face-and-crop detection, background removal where the destination country's rules permit it, image enhancement, and a few alternate framing variants to choose between. The exact amount is shown at checkout before you pay. It's a single payment, not a subscription — there's nothing to cancel, because there's nothing recurring. The payment is spent when you download that photo; editing a different photo needs a new payment.

A handful of countries — the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and China — work a little differently even after payment, since they restrict what kind of automation is allowed. Our FAQ explains why, country by country.

Cropping, positioning, and background checks run as computation inside your own browser, using on-device machine-learning models — for most photos, the image data never has to travel to a server at all. The one exception is the optional AI enhancement step, available on the paid tier for countries where it is legally permitted: that briefly sends your photo, over an encrypted connection, to a server that forwards it to a specialized image-processing provider and returns the result, without ever writing it to a database or disk. We never smooth skin, whiten teeth, remove blemishes, or otherwise beautify a photo, on any country's photo, on any tier, paid or free. Biometric ID photo rules almost everywhere prohibit that kind of retouching, and it's a real rejection risk. The tools we build are about compliance and convenience, not beautification.

makeidpic is meant for adults creating a compliant photo for themselves, or for a dependent in their care — a parent preparing a baby's or child's passport photo is a common and expected use case. It isn't designed for children to use directly as the ones operating the tool.
